National Administrative Professionals Week: Celebrating Paige LaDue
Could you share a bit about your background and experience?
My background started as a front office manager, so I was managing all of the admin responsibilities at an event planning company and then from there I was promoted to an event planner where I did that for 6 years and while I was event planning, I was still doing admin for that company, as an executive assistant. I studied event planning in college, and did administrative and event planning work up until I made a change and ended up here!
What specifically attracted you to this position?
I was excited about the opportunity to work in operations because I felt like I was able to harness the skills I already had in administration, but also opened the door to some different duties in the role like sales support, temp onboarding and management so it allowed me to what I already liked while also expanding on my skills.
In your opinion, what are the key qualities that an effective administrative professional should possess?
Some key qualities that are effective in this type of work are culture fit, flexibility and organization. Culture fit is important because when you’re the person that is in charge of supporting a company operation you have to be able to get along with everyone, be respectful to everyone and make others feel comfortable to talk to you and work with you. Next, flexibility is very important because this is the kind of job where you can get something different thrown at you everyday and each day is very different so you have to be ready to respond to different tasks. Lastly, great organizational skills is necessary because there are many departments relying on you to keep things together.
How do you prioritize tasks and manage your time effectively in a fast-paced office environment?
To manage your time effectively in a fast-paced office environment, being able to assess the urgency of a task or problem is really important. Additionally, you need to be able to understand the needs of candidates or clients and not be afraid to let people know the time frame for when you’ll get back to them so you can maintain your order of urgency.
What does being a part of the Roessel Joy team mean to you?
Being a part of Roessel Joy is really motivating and I take a lot of pride in the fact that I’m growing with a growing organization so I have the ability to make recommendations and improvements to existing processes and my input is very valued. It’s also a very collaborative environment so I feel really accepted and valued by my colleagues.
What is your favorite piece of career advice?
Don’t be afraid to make a big career change if it gives you a better quality of life.
What values drive and motivate you?
In general, I’m a hard-worker and I like to do my best everyday. I’m also driven by working for a company that has a mission and values to help people, so you know the work you’re doing is actually benefiting the community.
Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or favorite things to do?
I love being outside, crocheting, spending time with my nieces and nephew and traveling!
